Applying for a Master’s degree is not simply about uploading a certificate on the final day. For Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU)’s 2027 intake, organised preparation helps you check programme fit, complete English-language documentation, and avoid missing part of the application.
The XJTLU 2027 application portal is open. The listed deadline is 5 pm Beijing Time on 15 November 2026 for a small number of programmes with a February intake, and 5 pm Beijing Time on 15 June 2027 for the September intake.[1] Not every programme offers a February intake; check the options that actually appear after selecting your programme in the application system.[1]
1. Start with the programme and its specific requirements
Choose a programme first, then read its entry and English-language requirements. XJTLU states that minimum entry requirements and language requirements can differ by programme.[1][2]
As an illustration, XJTLU’s entry-requirements page lists IELTS Academic 6.5 with a minimum 5.5 in every component for one example Master’s requirement; TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic may also be accepted, depending on the programme.[2] Do not assume this score applies to every programme—use the intended programme page and your offer letter as the final reference.
2. Prepare the document checklist before opening the form
XJTLU asks applicants to prepare documents for upload, including:[1]
- a personal statement;
- full official academic transcripts with institutional stamps and grading system;
- degree certificates, if received, or an Enrolment Status Letter if still completing a degree;
- English-qualification evidence;
- contact information for two academic referees;
- a CV; and
- a copy of the passport information page for international students.
All documents need to be in English. If the originals are issued in another language, XJTLU requests both the original-certificate copy and a certified English translation.[1] If your documents are in Indonesian, confirm the accepted translation format with the university before uploading.
3. Make the personal statement specific
The personal statement is your opportunity to explain to admissions officers and academic staff why you should receive an offer. XJTLU limits it to 800 words.[1]
Rather than repeating your CV, connect your academic or professional experience, reason for choosing the programme, questions or subject area you want to explore, and how you plan to use the learning. Keep examples relevant, honest, and consistent with your transcript and CV.
4. Submit complete information early
Once you create an application account, complete every required section carefully, keep the information current, and upload documents to the matching fields.[1] XJTLU may request additional documents or an interview for particular programmes.[1]
Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer. XJTLU states that programmes may stop accepting applications if no places remain.[1] Do not leave transcript requests, academic references, or certified translations until close to the deadline.
5. If you intend to apply for scholarship
XJTLU’s Master’s Entry Scholarship is available for full-time study. You need to indicate scholarship interest in the online application and upload supporting documents when submitting the Master’s application; later applications are not considered.[1][4]
For September 2027, the listed Master’s Entry Scholarship deadline is 1 June 2027. XJTLU lists merit-based scholarship support worth 20%, 30%, or 50% of total tuition fees for full-time Master’s programmes; full scholarship may be considered for a small number of MRes applicants with outstanding academic merit and research potential.[4] Scholarships are competitive, so check current eligibility details directly on the official page.
6. After you receive an offer
Offer holders are asked to pay a non-refundable RMB20,000 deposit when accepting an offer; XJTLU says this deposit will be deducted from the first year’s tuition fee.[1] For September 2027, the How to Apply page also lists 24 June 2027 for uploading English-requirement evidence and 8 July 2027 for the degree certificate and final transcript, subject to your offer-letter conditions.[1]
Create one application folder containing final documents, upload confirmations, Beijing Time deadlines, and notes from admissions communications. RIM Education can help you read requirements, plan a personal-statement strategy, and review application-document completeness. Contact RIM Education to discuss your plans.
Deadlines, tuition fees, scholarships, intakes, visas, and programme requirements can change. Always verify them on official XJTLU pages and your offer letter before making a decision.[1][2][4]
