The University of Sydney Full-Tuition Scholarship: Around 20 Global Awards Each Year

Looking for an Australian undergraduate scholarship that genuinely covers tuition? The Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship provides 100% of tuition fees and the Student Services Amenities Fee (SSAF) for the published full-time duration of one eligible undergraduate degree, including embedded honours, for up to four years.[1]

The University of Sydney says that approximately 20 scholarships are awarded globally each year across two intakes. This number is indicative, and selection considers diversity of intended degree and nationality—so it is not a country-specific quota.[1]

What is covered—and what still needs a budget?

The scholarship covers full tuition fees and SSAF. However, “full scholarship” here does not mean that every cost is covered. Recipients remain responsible for Overseas Student Health Cover, accommodation, living costs, textbooks, flights, and other study-related expenses.[1]

Who may be considered?

In general, applicants need to:

  • be an international student, not an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or dual citizen with Australian nationality;
  • have applied for, but not yet commenced, one eligible undergraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney;
  • enrol and study full-time;
  • have completed secondary school, or a qualifying foundation programme;
  • not have previously undertaken tertiary study, except extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 programme; and
  • not be commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney.[1]

Not every course is included. The official page excludes combined degrees with a postgraduate component, two specified Sciences Po dual degrees, and degrees that include the Bachelor of Advanced Studies.[1]

How does selection work?

The University of Sydney assesses academic merit from the admission application, whether the applicant meets the committee’s minimum threshold, an online scholarship application, nationality diversity, and intended-degree diversity.[1]

An admission offer alone therefore does not guarantee the scholarship. Only successful applicants are contacted; the university gives an indicative scholarship-offer turnaround time of about five weeks after the scholarship application is submitted.[1]

Conditions after receiving the scholarship

Recipients must accept their unconditional admission offer and scholarship offer by the required deadline. To keep the scholarship, they need to maintain a Semester Average Mark of at least 65 each semester, have no outstanding fees, and complete the degree within its published full-time duration.[1]

The scholarship cannot be transferred to another stream, degree, or faculty. Deferral and suspension are also not permitted under the stated conditions.[1]

A sensible preparation checklist

  1. Confirm that your intended undergraduate course is eligible.
  2. Prepare academic results, admission documents, and English-language evidence for your programme.
  3. Apply for admission and the scholarship through official University of Sydney channels.
  4. Recheck country-specific requirements, course eligibility, and the scholarship’s open status before applying—award numbers and conditions can change.[1]

Important: Award numbers, eligibility, and terms can change. The University of Sydney makes the final decision; check the official scholarship page and admission requirements for your own application.[1]
