University of Otago Undergraduate Scholarships for Indonesian Students: Up to Around NZD 35,000

Planning an undergraduate degree in New Zealand? The University of Otago offers several scholarship routes for new international students. For Indonesian passport holders starting a full-time Bachelor degree, one of the most relevant options is the University of Otago Global Scholarship, worth NZD 15,000 towards tuition fees.[1]

It is not the only option. Depending on academic profile, study pathway, and where you studied previously, other awards range from NZD 10,000 to around NZD 35,000.[1]

1. Global Scholarship: NZD 15,000 for Indonesian passport holders

The University of Otago lists Indonesia among the passports eligible for its Global Scholarship. The award is for new international students commencing a full-time Bachelor degree and is worth NZD 15,000 towards tuition fees. The university says it has unlimited offers and that eligible applicants are assessed automatically during admission—no extra scholarship application is required.[1]

Still, read the offer letter carefully: the scholarship offer must be accepted by the deadline shown in that letter, as well as the admission offer.[1]

2. Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship: NZD 10,000

For new international students beginning a full-time Bachelor degree, the University of Otago also lists the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students, worth NZD 10,000 towards tuition fees. Assessment is also automatic during admission, without a separate scholarship application.[1]

3. International Academic Excellence Scholarship: around NZD 35,000

High-achieving international students who studied outside New Zealand before entering Otago may be considered for the University of Otago International Academic Excellence Scholarship. Its listed value is around NZD 35,000, comprising first-year accommodation plus tuition scholarships in years two and three.[1]

This is a competitive selection. After accepting an earlier scholarship offer—such as a Global Scholarship or Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship—an applicant may be invited through eVision to complete the required questions and information.[1]

4. International Partnership Scholarship: NZD 10,000

This route is for international students entering through an established partner articulation agreement, such as 2+2 or credit recognition. It is worth NZD 10,000 and requires at least four semesters of study at Otago. Applicants need to agree to be considered during the eVision admission steps.[1]

Choosing the right route

  • Indonesian passport holders starting a full-time Bachelor degree: check the Global Scholarship first.
  • High-achieving students educated outside New Zealand: check your potential invitation to the International Academic Excellence Scholarship.
  • Transfer or articulation-agreement pathways: check the International Partnership Scholarship.
  • Students from a New Zealand school or foundation programme: check the University of Otago Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships; the stated value is NZD 10,000 to around NZD 45,000, with an application period listed as 1 July–15 August.[1]

A scholarship does not automatically cover every cost. Check remaining tuition, accommodation, insurance, living expenses, visa costs, and your offer conditions separately. Values, eligibility, and processes can change.[1]
