Massey University Scholarships 2027: NZ$15,000 for UG, NZ$10,000 for Master’s, and Toroa Options

If you are considering New Zealand study in 2027, Massey University has several tuition-fee support routes for new international students. One route is the International Study Grants, which are automatically assessed for selected programmes.[1][2]

The other route is the Toroa International Fee Scholarships, which need a separate application for particular programmes and intakes.[3][4]

It is important to separate the two: these are contributions towards tuition fees, not cash payments or a guarantee of living costs, accommodation, visas, insurance, or flights.

1. International Study Grants: automatically assessed at admission

For 2027, Massey lists an International Study Grant worth NZ$15,000 towards tuition fees for new international students taking selected Bachelor’s programmes full-time and onshore in New Zealand.[1][5] Listed programmes include Bachelor of Accountancy, Agribusiness, Agricultural Science, Arts, Aviation Management, Communication, Design, Food Technology with Honours, Nursing, Resource and Environmental Planning, and Sport and Exercise.[1]

For selected Master’s programmes, the grant is worth NZ$10,000 towards tuition fees. Massey’s listed examples include the Executive MBA and Master’s degrees in Agribusiness, Applied Linguistics, Arts, Communication, Design, Emergency Management, Environmental Management, Science, Supply Chain Management, and Veterinary Studies.[2]

There is no separate scholarship form for the International Study Grant route. Massey says applicants are assessed at admission and, if successful, the grant will appear on their offer of place.[1][2] An offer should not be assumed to include a grant—check your own offer details directly.

2. Toroa International Fee Scholarships: a separate application is required

If your programme is not listed for an International Study Grant, check whether you meet the Toroa International Fee Scholarship criteria. For undergraduate students, Massey offers up to 40 awards worth NZ$10,000 towards tuition fees for Semester 1 (February) 2027. Listed programmes are the Bachelor of Animal Science, Business, Construction, Information Science, and Science.[3]

For postgraduate students, up to 80 awards worth NZ$5,000 towards tuition fees are available for Semester 1 (February) 2027. The list includes Master’s degrees in Analytics, Applied Social Work, Business Administration, Business Studies, Construction, Finance, Information Sciences, Management, and Professional Accountancy.[4]

Toroa is not an automatic assessment. Applicants need an admission offer, must apply through the Scholarships tab in the Student Portal, and answer why they chose Massey and what academic or non-academic contribution they hope to make to the Massey community.[3][4]

3. Deadlines and requirements to check now

The Toroa UG and PG pages list applications opening on 15 September 2026 and closing on 20 October 2026.[3][4]

Both Toroa routes require applicants to be new international students, study full-time on campus in New Zealand, and enrol in their first 120 credits in Semester 1 February 2027.[3][4]

For Toroa recipients, Massey says they must pay the full first-year fees or make a NZ$500 contribution towards tuition fees within two weeks of the scholarship award to secure it.[3][4] International Study Grants apply only to tuition fees, have no cash value, cannot be transferred or exchanged, and remain subject to full-time-enrolment conditions.[5]

4. A checklist before relying on a scholarship

Before building your study budget, make four checks:

  1. Confirm that your programme and intake appear on the official page for the route you are considering.
  2. Check your offer of place to see whether an International Study Grant has actually been included.
  3. For Toroa, check the Student Portal and prepare your application responses before the closing date.
  4. Budget separately for costs not covered, including living costs, accommodation, insurance, visa, travel, and personal expenses.

A scholarship does not automatically guarantee an award or cover every study cost. Eligibility, programme lists, value, deadlines, and conditions can change; use Massey’s official pages as the final reference before deciding or making a payment.
