AI-Enhanced Luxury Interior Design at Istituto Marangoni: When AI Is a Tool, Not a Designer Replacement
AI can make the interior-design process feel faster: visual references can be explored, concepts can be tested, and presentations can be developed quickly. Good design still needs spatial judgement, material understanding, sensitivity to clients, and the ability to make decisions. So the more useful question is not “will AI replace designers?” but how can designers use AI with purpose, judgement, and clear responsibility?
Istituto Marangoni Milano Design offers AI-Enhanced Luxury Interior Design, a professional course that explores AI use from concept creation to client communication in a luxury-interior-design context.[1][2] It is a course for professionals, not a replacement for an entry-level Interior Design degree.
What does the course cover?
According to Istituto Marangoni, the programme combines creative exploration with strategic insight. Participants use AI for concept generation, visualisation, material curation, and client communication; it also covers operations, marketing, and building a luxury-brand identity.[1]
The stated outputs include a Luxury Design Concept Dossier, a digital asset portfolio with renderings, videos, and AR/VR experiences, a project-management report, and a marketing and branding strategy.[1] This is useful because it frames an interior project as more than attractive imagery: it also involves brand narrative, work planning, and professional communication.
A digital portfolio is not automatic proof that a design can be built well, however. Students still need to understand the brief, spatial dimensions, function, materials, budget, safety requirements, and technical constraints. AI can speed up exploration, but people still need to check the result.
Who is it most relevant for?
The course is aimed at interior designers, architects focused on interiors and luxury projects, creative directors, design studio owners, project managers, marketing managers, brand strategists, postgraduate graduates, and freelancers.[1] This makes the format more relevant to people who already have a design foundation or experience and want to update their professional workflow.
If you are still in high school or are just choosing a major, use a course like this as a clue to future competencies—not as a reason to skip the fundamentals. A degree route in Interior Design, Architecture, Product Design, or Visual Communication can build foundations in design, research, visual communication, and project development before you pursue more specialised upskilling.
Learn AI for design more critically
When assessing an AI design course, do not only ask which tools it uses. Ask:
- Do participants learn to develop concepts from research and a brief, rather than only generate images?
- Is there discussion of authorship, reference use, copyright, and client consent?
- Do outputs include reasoning, materials, function, and feasibility—not visuals alone?
- Is there tutor feedback or professional review?
- Does the course clearly state its intended participant and expected level?
Istituto Marangoni says the course is delivered primarily online over 14 weeks, with two in-person experiential weeks in Milan from 12–23 April 2027; the page currently lists a 16 November 2026 start, a €1,000 enrolment fee, and €8,500 tuition fee.[1] This information is time-sensitive. Check dates, format, fees, entry requirements, and travel planning on the official page before applying.
Istituto Marangoni also states that I’M Alumni Community members who have successfully completed at least one previous course can receive a 30% tuition-fee reduction; the enrolment fee remains due.[1] This is a conditional fee reduction, not a living-cost scholarship.
